Damp mysterious and teeming with life, the Sinharaja forest reserve is the last expensive stretch of virgin rainforest in Sri Lanka. An ecological treasure trove, with it’s staggering array of endemic flora and fauna makes it a top bio diversity hotspot in the world.
Being a UNESCO world heritage site it, encompasses the largest single swath of remaining low land tropical rain forest within the country. Over 130 bird species are found here including many of the 33 species endemic to the Sri Lanka. There also rich reptile population and myriads of insects species, many yet to be classified. Mammals scenes here including the purple faced langur monkey and the giant squirrel. Sinharaja is also home to the elusive leopard. Exploring Sinharaja is a truly authentic jungle experience.

Handapan Ella can be translated in English as ‘moonlight falls’ and this term self-explains its own unique beauty. Handapan Ella starts to flow from Rakwana River and springs from Handapan Ella Valley. The waterfall is said to be 23 meters in height, although there are number of very small waterfalls that get divided from this main falls.
This area was under the rule of Chieftain Ehelepola Nileme, during the period of Kandyian Kingdom. The villagers believe the Chieftain has hidden his treasures in the fall. The view of this striking waterfall is very clear when travelling through Rakwana – Kalawana Road.
